Apollo

Happy Friday, everyone! Welcome back to Too Many Books to Count!

Today we're talking about something very near and dear to my heart... my very first spaceship. See, this is what makes this series more fun to me than anything else I've worked on. This has been my first spacey science fiction series. Which means everything, even the ships, are new to me.

Apollo

Just like with Earth-Space and the Hunters, it's easiest to explain anything about this ship by just describing it. But I'll start by showing you a picture. This is my working sketch of deck one of Adrastos, sister ship to the Apollo, and it'll give you an idea of the shape of the ship, in general. Yes, I know I blurred some of the words. Spoilers. And I also know I'm not all that good at drawing. Use your imagination.

  • Apollo was commissioned by Cornelius Madhran as his flagship during his long-term mission at ISS7.
  • It is classified as a C-Class Earth-Space ship, meaning it is mostly used for short-term flight and transport, and is high on speed. Though many C-Class vessels are later outfitted with enough weapons to make them technically classify as D-Class (short-range fighters), Apollo has maintained the status quo of few weapons per capita.
  • The Apollo is outfitted with a standard artificial intelligence computer, programmed with deficiencies that prevent the computer from taking control of the ship and from becoming a "living" thing. The AI's name is Harry, chosen by Cornelius.
  • Apollo has two decks. The second deck (below deck one) is outfitted with a loading ramp, main engineering, and cargo hold. I will not be providing this image, because it contains too many spoilers.
  • Specialist K. Stevens has recently been brought aboard as copilot aboard the Apollo, to complete her training as a full-fledged specialist. (Apparently, without telling me, she's actually a low-ranking specialist at the moment).
  • Unbeknownst to anyone aboard, the AI has developed a bond with Kaylen.
  • Cornelius Madhran has been using this ship to ferry members of the Hunter society to their people, right under the noses of ES, but with Kaylen now aboard Neal either has to turn her, hand her over, or find way to get her off the ship.

Essentially, that's the important stuff that you'll need to keep in mind. Especially that little bit about Harry. He'll be important in the story. Trust me.
